I’ve been listening to the Thrills, the most recent Irish pop sensation to take on the U.S. I guess it’s only fitting though, that their sound is pure California, influenced by a summer spent in, of all places, San Diego. I suppose they’re the perfect answer to these curious waves of sentimentality I’ve been feeling since leaving Dublin. I kind of knew it would happen eventually, even if I can say that coming back to the United States has been a relief at the day-to-day level.
jonah and i had a fascinating conversation with an mta metro employee. he had finished working on the track repairs at our local subway stop and was heading home for the day. at first we only asked him about the track work, but quickly unfolded to cover experiences he’s had on the job in his 28 years of service, as well as some little known secrets of the subterranean labryinth. i had to restrain myself from falling over with questions, which i plied relentlessly until it was time for us to transfer. fortunately the guy didn’t mind our curiousity.
Spoke at UCLA yesterday for the Free Flow Lecture Series. I was told the event streamed live… was anyone watching?
I guess I forgot to mention - I’m in the Fall 2004 Issue of DigitAll Magazine… under DigitAll Heroes. The article can be found here. The only bummer is that my name is mis-spelled in the subtitle, but it’s all right everywhere else.
Jonah and I are giving a talk at USC today. Info can be found at the Interactive Media Division’s blog. Check out Justin Hall’s page on backchannel options for speakers. Sounds like torture…
