GIMME SUMMA NUMA NUMA
I’ve sort of stopped reading RSS feeds… and look what I’ve missed… apparently the “O-zone” phenomenon has finally hit the U.S. in the form Gary Brolsma. he made a video of himself lip-syncing to the song “Dragostea Din Tei” and got a lot more than he asked for. He’s now internet famous.
Last summer I blogged the O-Zone video for “Dragostea Din Tei.” It was a huge hit all over Europe, and through our travels this summer Jonah and I heard it everywhere. While in Tallinn for ISEA we played the song during a workshop for the Estonian Academy of Art and the workshop participants exclaimed “This is the number one song in Estonia!” I remember thinking there was something kind of wonderful in how a silly song could give us some common pop-cultural ground (we heard of the song in Ireland) in a way that was not totally U.S. centric.
Anyway, the original O-zone video is at least as hilarious as Gary’s rendition. Check it out.
