WEARABLE WIFI DETECTORS

hotspot bloom by karen lee
at spectropolis in new york city karen lee is showing hotspot bloom a wearable wifi detector. this sort of reminds me of wifi sense, by milena iossifova (UPDATE: and ahmi wolf) which was part of the demo program of ubicomp 2003. both projects display the presence of wifi nodes as a wearable, light illuminated accessory.

in the case of wifi sense, the wifi detector is embedded in a bag and looks specifically for open and unencrypted nodes, and indicates their signal strength through illumnated LEDs.
hotspot bloom {via} uses a tri-color LED to identify wifi nodes, but it’s not clear if the device searches specifically for open nodes or just any wireless signal, but it appears that the “bloom” can be worn in a number of different ways.
