MORE RACISM IN DUBLIN
gotta love ireland… today biking home i hand signal and slow down for a right turn. the guy behind me on his bicycle passes by and says just loundly enough for me to hear: “dumb chinese”… what the [*($#@] is wrong with these people? somebody needs to start a shame campaign…
and too bad too, since recent travels to galway and the aran islands were so great. but that’s the ireland that’s sold to tourists. the reality… lots of ignorance.

Hi, I heard about this from Fionnuala, I am really so sorry that people have been so horrible, I see it all the time and often have to stop people or just actively be nicer to try and ‘make up’ for others rudeness (which is not the soundest policy but I feel a bit helpless and these situations are always so abrupt and shocking it is hard to think of all the things you want to retort with at the time). Although I hate it I don’t really know how it feels, (I have had a few experiences of it in America and did not like it at all) and I am just so sad that you are finding it so prevalent. All I can say is that we are not all like that, and hopefully there are enough of us who aren’t to shame the ones who are acting so disgracefully. Good luck!

Jesus, that sucks!! But I agree with Jenny that it is also important to remember that not all Irish people are racist assholes. Just try to hang in there and do what you can

haha… well i certainly don’t think all irish people are racists. but there is a lot of ignorance, and i find too often people who experience this here do not speak up about it. i think the only way to stop it is through reporting incidents and making people aware that behavior like that is not acceptable. there are probably many people in my native southern california who think like that cyclist but are too scared to say anything racist because they know their veiws are wrong and socially frowned upon. the same thing needs to happen in dublin.

Hi,
I lived and worked in Ireland for almost two years and I must say the IRISH are very racists, ignorance will not be fitting enough . I am back in the UK now and I will never ever set a foot in Ireland again . As far as the Irish are concerned , every black person is a refugee.
